Bon Jour Gatineau
Ottawa is an interesting place to live in because half the city lies in english speaking Ontario and the other half in french speaking Quebec seperated by a river.. Most of the people are bilingual and the influence of the Quebecois culture is very visible ..I have been living in Ottawa since the last 4 months but had never been exploring the quebec side too much... Guess it had to happen on the last weekend in town..
Watching Gilmore girls till 3:30 AM ( NO!!..i'm still
straight !!..i blame the Alpine for that).. waking up to a sunny sunday..what do you do?... While having breakfast with ben, on teh spur of the moment, we decided to drive down to the Gatineau park!!.. well.. There is a brutal and slightly sadistic side to the sunny days in winter in canada... you might look out of the window and see the sun bright and shining..BUT.. once you get your ass out there... its always mind numbing cold.. its almost as if weather god is playing a pied piper tune to get ppl out in the cold !!.. wel it was -12 before wind chill(-25 with WC and i have documented pic here-- would make for good viewing when im sweating around in +40 in India)The drive to the park runs around the river and is pretty scenic .. Its no himalayas or rockies
but well.. its nevertheless breathtaking with ski resorts and cute little houses by the River.. Its cool to see how Queen Elizabeth Driveway becomes "Promenade Reine-Elizabeth" once you cross a stretch of 1 Km from Ontario to Quebec.. An intersting place was a old reconstructed covered bridge in the town of Wakefield, which is small romantic french town with small coffee shops and restaurants by the River...
Well... Its 4 days to the city so nice.... they named it twice... New York,NY.. Im off to the big apple next weekend..and this time i dont mean Brighton :-)!!!..
Any nomads stationed out there right now... gimme a holler !!..

forget how to sit still
Tell yourself you will stay in
But it's down to Alphaville...... "-U2
